The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) in Ogun State, a top political group has recorded a significant expansion in its membership, formally receiving the leadership of the Ogun State Artisans Association of Nigeria alongside other political groups into its fold.
The development, which further strengthens the movement’s growing influence, adds to its existing membership strength of over 30,000 across the state.
The Movement represents a growing platform for inclusive political participation, bringing together individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds under a shared vision of progress and development.
The event, held on Saturday, witnessed the presence of apex leaders of the movement, state executive members, local government and ward coordinators as well as representatives of the newly admitted groups.
The incoming associations, including a political group formerly known as YPM, were officially welcomed into the movement by the Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde.
Addressing the gathering, Akintunde described the movement as an inclusive platform with the capacity to accommodate all party faithful across Ogun State. He emphasized that Yayi Progressives Movement remains open to further expansion ahead of its forthcoming official inauguration.
"As the movement continues to grow, it provides a unique avenue for meaningful engagement, leadership development, and collective action toward the shared goal of sustainable progress. This expanding structure offers opportunities for youths, professionals, artisans, and community leaders to actively contribute to shaping the future of Ogun State".
He further urged members to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts, encouraging more Ogun residents to join what he described as a “moving train” committed to unity, growth, and political advancement.
Akintunde also commended the leadership and coordinators of the movement for their dedication and steadfast commitment to its vision.
“What we are witnessing today is another milestone-bringing together our brothers and sisters from different political platforms into one united front.
“From a base of about 30,000 members, today’s expansion is a clear testament to the steady progress of the Yayi Progressives Movement in Ogun State.”
As part of efforts to strengthen its communication structure, the convener announced the appointment of Comrade Akeem Akilo as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the movement, praising his role in fostering unity within the organization.
In his remarks, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, a two-term member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency who doubles as Board Chairman of the Ogun State Artisans Association, lauded the convener’s efforts in building a formidable political structure.
Odeneye asserted that the movement continues to attract diverse groups including youths, students, and artisans towards the realization of the governorship ambition of Senator Adeola Solomon in the state.
He affirmed the readiness of artisans across Ogun State to align with the objectives of the Yayi Progressives Movement, stressing the importance of widespread mobilization.
“This Yayi Progressives Movement is built on purpose and direction. It is fast becoming the strongest and most formidable political force in Ogun State today,” - he stated.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of YPM, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, described the gathering as a strategic alignment of like-minded groups working towards a shared vision, adding that the movement offers significant political advantage to constituents across the state.
Similarly, the State Coordinator for Artisans, Comrade Anthony Ayodele, highlighted the inclusive nature of the movement, noting that its strength lies in its openness, unity, and commitment to progress.
